How does remote unlocking work? [Codes]

If you decide to unlock your phone, you usually have two choices, bring it to a store and get it unlocked on the spot, or you could simply unlock it remotely. Prices have dropped recently on remote unlocking and many customers prefer unlocking their phones using this method.

There are several databases in which codes reside for unlocking. Usually, the carriers have the codes and so do the manufacturers of the phones. For example, Blackberry phones can be unlocked via the Rogers databases or RIM’s own database. The only difference is in price.
